Sweet and Spicy Apple Grilled Ham and Cheese
Speedy, delicious and comes together in one skillet!
Marinate apples with lemon juice, a pinch of salt, 1 tbsp bajan pepper sauce and 1 tbsp of maple syrup or brown sugar. 30 minutes to overnight.
Heat a skillet to medium low heat and add 1 tsp butter to cook the marinated apples for 2 minutes. Add your ham slices for one minute on each side.
Move to the side of your pan.
Butter your bread, place butter side down into your hot skillet and add your cheese. Old cheddar is best. Add fresh cracked pepper.
Place your ham on top of the cheese followed by the apples. Cover and let steam for 90 seconds.
Add your second piece of buttered bread on top and flip.
Low and slow is best with grilled cheese.
Let the other side cook until golden brown.
The sugars from the apple marinade help the outside of the bread caramelize. It's such a treat that can be made for brunch or as a tasty late night snack.
This hot sauce is a dream for heat lovers. I order mine off Amazon and it lasts me a while because a little goes a long way. Star Bajan Pepper Sauce is what you’re looking for!
